Fuel Price Hike: What to Expect Next Week (2025)

Buckle up, because your wallet is about to take another hit at the pump! Prepare yourself for yet another round of fuel price increases hitting gas stations nationwide next week. It seems like barely a week goes by without this news, doesn't it? But here's where it gets controversial... why are these fluctuations so frequent, and who really benefits?

According to early projections from the Department of Energy-Oil Industry Management Bureau (DOE-OIMB), we're looking at some significant jumps. Assistant Director Rodela Romero revealed that these estimates are based on the past four days of international petroleum trading. Get ready for these projected increases:

  • Gasoline: An increase of roughly P0.60 per liter.
  • Diesel: An increase of approximately P0.75 per liter. This is particularly tough news for those who rely on diesel for transportation or business.
  • Kerosene: A significant increase of around P1.00 per liter. This will disproportionately affect households that rely on kerosene for cooking and lighting, especially in more rural areas. And this is the part most people miss... kerosene is often overlooked in these discussions, but it's a crucial energy source for many families.

Romero clarified that these are preliminary figures. "Final estimates will be completed after today’s MOPS (Mean of Platts Singapore) trading, taking into account oil companies’ operational costs and other premiums," she stated. This means the final prices could be even higher. Ouch!

The DOE official explained that international petroleum product prices experienced a volatile "see-saw" effect earlier in the week. This was due to conflicting factors: the latest US sanctions targeting Russian oil (potentially restricting supply) versus growing optimism about a possible resolution to the US government shutdown (which could boost economic activity and, therefore, fuel demand). But this was capped of a prediction that rising supply will outweigh demand. This is a bold statement, and one that analysts are already debating. Will supply really outpace demand, or is this just temporary market maneuvering?

Remember that fuel companies typically announce their official price adjustments every Monday, with the new prices going into effect the following day (Tuesday). This pattern gives consumers very little time to prepare for the financial impact.

Just last Tuesday, November 11th, we saw gasoline prices climb by P0.50 per liter and diesel surge by a full P1.00 per liter. Kerosene prices, however, remained unchanged at that time due to a nationwide price freeze. But with the new estimates, kerosene users are in for a big change.

So, what do you think about these constant fuel price hikes? Is it simply a matter of global market forces, or are there other factors at play? Are these sanctions truly impacting supply, or is it an excuse? And what long-term solutions can we explore to mitigate the impact on consumers?
