Located in downtown Wilmington, the iconic HOTEL DU PONT originally opened its doors in 1913 and underwent a luxurious renovation in 2018. The hotel offers refined rooms and suites, featuring elegant Darko cabinetry, spacious sitting areas, and large bathrooms. Its standout feature is Le Cavalier, a fine-dining restaurant renowned for its exquisite French cuisine. The hotel's solid construction from the early 1900s ensures a peaceful stay with wide hallways and soundproof walls.
Amazing! Stopped into the historic bar for a drink and it was breathtaking! A walk around the lobby gave us insight on the history and also local attractions currently happening. The bar is part of an elegant restaurant, but you will be served if you are casual. Lots of activity. Lively room with true craft cocktails. Very impressive!

It was a very memorable experience! One of the best hotels I've ever been to. It's historic, without feeling prehistoric. The modernity and classic elegance merge swell. The customer service and hospitality was top tier. Immaculate attention to detail inside and out. Le Cavalier is the best restaurant in Delaware and the vibe of it within the hotel elevates the vibe. Our suite was grand and I'm still thinking about divine hot tub and spacious living room. It's definitely worth the trip and a lovely weekend getaway with a loved one!

I'd wanted to visit this hotel for a while. It was ok. Restaurant was good, but the room just wasn't very clean. We accepted the upgrade offered for a sitting room and a tub, but the tub hadn't been properly cleaned in who knows how long. This could be a nice hotel experience with a little more attention to detail.

I did not feel like this was a 5 star hotel. I was not warmly welcomed first off. My room was large and comfortable. The bathroom nice. Ordered room service upon arrival and it wasn't good. Very unimpressed. I will post pics. The hotel was GORGEOUS however. Very nostalgic. I ate at the hotel restaurant which was good and very beautiful. Bed was comfortable. When I was checking out I asked for a taxi. The service that came was not a taxi and was more expensive so that made me a bit unhappy.

My husband and I stayed here for our10th wedding anniversary. I'll start on a positive note. The lobby and restaurant are really beautiful, and we had a great experience with most of the staff, especially the bartenders and valet staff. We stayed in two different rooms. Our first room, there were carpet stains, pillow stains, no coffee pods available, the toilet barely flushed, and the wallpaper was peeling. This is in addition to the fact that the rooms are just generally dated in style. We spoke to the front desk, and while not immensely apologetic they did move us to a different room. The second room we were in was much cleaner, but this time the coffee maker didn't work at all, and the toilet handle kept getting stuck down. This is one of the highest priced hotels we have ever chosen to stay at, and the value of a 5 star hotel simply isn't there. The rooms desperately need a renovation to meet even an average chain hotel standard.

Wife and I have been coming here for decades for getaway weekends. Why? The place is cool, the gym/sauna are uninhabited, and if not for weddings the entire hotel would be ours alone. The people are nice, the macaroons a tradition, and the Green Room romantic (both before and after the renovation). The bad: prices have been climbing; rooms not getting rehabilitated (yes gold carpet, I have seen you since the 90's); and room service is often spotty on the weekends (best to get dressed and have brunch in the Green Room).

When I first checked in, the elevator was blocked by a chair. An older staff member removed the chair and scowled. This was a first impression. I’m sorry I needed to use the elevator to get to my room. Also, my room was dreadful with buckled and tired gold carpeting and it was also badly stained. The phone didn’t work. The view was of a roof. After complaining, I was upgraded and that was nice. The new room still had pealing wallpaper and a cracked ceiling near the shower. Dinner was fair. The lamb shoulder was over salted and over priced. Drinks were good. There was a man screaming at three in the morning outside the hotel. The area is a dangerous one. Nothing was in the honors bar. Valet service was poor. The hotel is a tired old lady. Elegant in its day, but over rated. And ridiculously expensive. The vibe I get is that the staff knows the place is a has been, and they feign graciousness, but they also know the place is surrounded by crime, danger and poverty. I asked myself, after my experience, why would anyone in their right mind ever want to be here again? Stay away. A Marriott is nicer.

It's a beautiful building. The interior is well decorated. I spent several nights there. The coffee machine in the room didn't work correctly and I had to try to brew several times to get the tiny cup to the appropriate level. They didn't replace the coffee, or condiments used, each day. With a room that looks into the interior of the hotel, the view, with rusted maintenance equipment was a major eyesore.

The hotel is historic… so it’s just dated inside in the rooms. If you go in with that expectation you should be fine. We came here for a wedding and let’s just say every group had at least one things wrong with their room, like the plugs in the bathroom didn’t work and the shower didn’t drain while you were showering in it. Luckily the hotel makes up for it with their five star service, comfy beds, large rooms and a/c!

Beautiful hotel with a welcoming and warm atmosphere. The staff and service were welcoming and friendly. Especially, Ardit, he hold the door for me as I came in and was very attentive and friendly. Also, the rooms were clean and aesthetic and the gym was very nice, probably one of the best hotel gyms in the city. Overall, it was a great experience, and I would definitely come back.

The worst! Dining experience ever! Brunch was terrible! If it were possible to give No stars, that's what I would give. The sausage was deep-fried and Actually Uncooked - that's right it was raw. When shown that and requested new, cooked sausage, we were told they didn't have any more sausage. The Belgian waffles were covered in walnuts, which was Not listed on the menu, but as it happens told the waitress about our walnut allergy, when we requested a new order, we were then told that there were No more Belgian waffles. So, get this raw sausage, but NO more sausage and Belgian waffles covered in walnuts that would cause a severe allergic reaction, but NO more waffles. How odd???Wait there is more. Gave us the wrong bottled water; took forever to get creme for coffee; took forever to get mimosas, after asking where they were, then being told that, they were out of the house mimosa.Yes, that's right again NO mimosas either. We went there for brunch and there was Nothing to eat or drink for brunch! The attitude of the staff was terrible! They were Definitely not interested in serving us. We explained ALL of this to management and refused to pay.We went elsewhere and had a wonderful meal. AVOID the Cavalier at all cost! The staff and the food are terrible!!!

I stayed at this hotel during the summer of 2021. It is an absolutely beautiful hotel. The most beautiful I have visited in a long time. All the details are very nice and everything is clean. The staff in place in very friendly and professional. They treated me with respect. The restaurant near the hotel was also delicious. I fell in love with this hotel, I would recommend it to everyone. I will try to return in the next few years.

Enjoyed family dinner at Le Cavalier The Green Room. 1st time eating here. Professional service from valet to staff serving food. Checked on us on several occasions to make sure all was well. Gotta remember to order sides with entrees next time. 20% gratuity is automatically added to parties of 6 or more.

This place is old school fancy and AMAZING as far as ambiance goes. The hotel staff is friendly and efficient, and you can communicate your needs through text which is very convenient. That being said, there's a little wear and tear with some doors and wallpaper if that matters to you. My room was pretty warm and I wasn't able to get the temp down, which is the only reason for 4 stars.

Very nice experience in an old grand hotel that’s showing it’s age a bit but we’ll kept. Very nice rooms. The small lobby bar was small and too packed. The bigger restaurant bar was amazing but closed at 10pm. We were there for a wedding. The valet parking is pretty packed. The main bar is beautiful like the lobby. You can park in the same garage the valets is just a block away. We were on the 4th floor and had an interior view of the HVAC equipment, request floors 7-11.

“Hotel itself is honestly beautiful. But for a 5-star hotel, I expect much better service. With the exception of Frank at Le Cavalier, the stay was all around one of the worst customer service experiences I’ve had. It’s mind-blowing how awful all the guest service agents are. It’s as if they’re trained to be as unaccommodating and unwelcoming as possible. Literally every request was denied. And they also don’t hide their disdain for black customers.Came for dinner the night before check in (met up with a friend who was staying at the hotel), asked the front desk for directions to the bathroom. Was told I couldn’t get directions unless he saw a room key. Really? For directions?? To a lobby bathroom??Checked in the next afternoon. Was told my room was on the 5th floor. I asked if that was the highest floor available. Without even checking she tells me “unfortunately we’re all booked so there’s nothing else”. I just so happened to have checked that hour (was going to book a second room for a friend) so I know for a fact there was availability. I let her know this. Then she checks the system and tells me “okay, I guess we can do the 8th floor for you”. Just wowI had booked a luxury king, got to the room. No robes, no tissue. Called down ~1:30pm to request the items get delivered. Was told it would be right up. Came back to my room at ~6. Items still weren’t there. Called again from a friend’s room to request the items. Housekeeping wanted to know why I was calling from a different room. What difference does it make??? Got back to my room ~8:30. Still no items. Called a third time and finallyyyy, after just 7.5 short hours 🙄, I got tissue at 9pm.Had reservations for brunch at the hotel restaurant at 11:30 so asked if it was ok to check out ~30 minutes past the 12pm check out time. Without even checking the system… “No unfortunately we can’t accommodate that”Service at the restaurant wasn’t much better. Our waiter never checked on us to see how everything was, multiple times we had to find a different server to request items. One of the people I was dining with asked for avocado- was told no. We found another server who brought it out. Another person requested a baguette instead of toast. Same no response.Prices are in line with the Four Seasons- which I stay at often. But somehow they think it’s ok to treat you as if you’re at a budget hotel. For that price, I expect better treatment. Again, it’s a lovely historic hotel. But between the poor service, and open, blatant stares- I highly doubt I’ll return.”

I went to this hotel because my Sorority had an event there. There was a "Tea" Scholarship Luncheon there, and this was .y first time being at this hotel. The place is absolutely Gorgeous!! The decor, presence, smell when you walk in the lobby was amazing! There was such a Grand ambiance in this place! The food was really good, with small sandwiches, pastries and of course tea! The service was great! The staff were very polite and very welcoming!Didn't stay in the rooms, but I could only imagine they had to be Gtand as well!

The Hotel DuPont is an icon. Today I had the great pleasure of being inside for the very first time. Hannah at the front desk was so kind, pleasant, and helpful. The interior decor of the lobby, the ballroom, and yes, even the bathroom were all incredible! We worked with Jacob Stillman, The Events Leader to arrange for an hour inside to conduct a photo shoot for my daughter’s senior yearbook, and for the portfolio she will be submitting to university.Everyone on staff were so very helpful. The Security & Crew helped us with getting the lights on, and showed us the dimmer switches so we could set the right mood.We hired a professional photographer who was also visiting the Hotel DuPont for the very first time. She was blown away by the sheer elegance and beauty of the place. The doors, the railings, the curtains, and even the signage all speak to an era when craftsmanship was king. This place is something that couldn’t be replicated today.I can’t wait to return with my wife for a weekend for 2. My daughter is already dreaming of having her wedding reception here. And the photographer is considering her next shoot in this location. Hannah, Jacob, and Team…THANK YOU..!!!

Hotel duPont is a beautiful hotel situated in downtown Wilmington. We stayed in the junior suite, and it was wonderful. There is Darko cabinetry in a large flat screen, along with the sitting area, and a nice big bathroom. The hotel was built sometime in the early 1900s. There’s such a difference in the quality of construction between then and now. Hotel DuPont’s walls were solid and the hallways were nice and wide. I didn’t hear anyone sneezing or talking on the phone next to me, which was refreshing. They have definitely ruined me for the rest of my business travel, that’s for sure. Would definitely go back.

Hotel DuPont is classic! Our last wedding at HD was in January on a cold and damp day. But inside was the warm, art-deco-style beauty that is Hotel DuPont. Our couple told us in advance that they loved the architecture and requested that be a highlighted in their photos. We spent an hour or so before cocktail hour shooting around the hotel and then snuck out during the reception for some photos outside the hotel in the background. The ballroom is the perfect mix elegance and party vibes. The staff at Hotel DuPont is super helpful and accommodating! You are sure to have a perfect day at Union Trust (even if the weather doesn’t cooperate!)

Pros:- Clean rooms- Very comfortable beds- Black-out curtains- Incredibly friendly and helpful staff- Restaurant on first floor with fantastic breakfast- Great location in downtown WilmingtonJust a couple of drawbacks from my experience. The building is not new, which adds character but might not appeal to those seeking a modern feel. It's more of fancy classical aesthetic, if you're into that type of thing. Also onsite parking is valet-only and runs $45 per night, which isn't outrageous given the cost of the stay itself, but it might be a deterrent for some.Overall, I had a great stay. Worth a shot.

My husband and I were married at Hotel du Pont. It had beautiful architecture then and still does now. All other places pale in comparison. If you have an opportunity to visit Wilmington, DE I would recommend their food or rooms.

Great hotel! The rooms were very big and clean. The Wi-Fi also worked well. The French restaurant (Le Cavalier) in the lobby had great food. The only complaints I want to point out are that there are a lot of seams in the wallpaper and our room didn't have the nicest view. Otherwise, this hotel was great!

I am confused about how this is a 5 star hotel. Upon check-in the person at reception told me absolutely nothing about the amenities in the hotel and made no effort to make me feel welcome. The person checking me in asked for my ID and credit card but then did not want to take (touch) either one, which is fine for me because I would prefer not to have to clean them but was super weird and I have never had that experience. In fact he craned his neck to see if the credit card number matched... I won't try to explain it. Then I ordered room service for breakfast. It was avocado toast with a poached egg. It took 35 minutes to arrive ... for one piece of toast... literally that was it because they did not even remember to put a poached egg on it. When I called to tell them about it they offered to send another one but you already took 35 minutes for a piece of toast and I had to head to work so how would that be helpful? Then after a long day of work I get back to my room and the room service plate was gone from inside of the room, but no one serviced the room... the bed was unmade, the trash was there, no new towels, nothing. So you came in my room and didn't bother to do anything but take a plate away. All very interesting behaviors for a "5 star hotel". Horrible experience, would not recommend. Luckily, I am only here for 2 nights so I shall quickly forget this experience.

in midst of my second stay over two weeks. first two days were 5star A+ - fabulous renovated room, great svc etc. i came back the following week and a bit diff- took 4 hours for the room to be ready at check in - and then i realized the bath hadnt been fully reset (shower was missing shampoos, soap - took mult requests to fix) - Temp in this room wont go above 70 degree, yet the room fridge turns your bottled water into ice blocks. feedback to mgmt led to general indifference from staff. a tail of two hotels...

Incredible history. I personally had the staff leave their positions on two occasions to show me the property. Mind you, I didn’t ask, they just took me through. So personable. The history is palpable. If thats your thing- this is your place. Old world history today. It is an experience. Take note of the details.
